House Renovation in XR: Exploring
Co-Design with Professional Architects On-site using Augmented Reality
Principal Investigator
How can Extended Reality (XR) technologies support architectural design practitioners in their work? In this project, a team of researchers and architects join forces to test the possibilities of XR, in the context of residential design. The site is an existing building in Tokyo which was purchased by the architects, with the aim of customizing it to their needs and lifestyle. A design and visualization environment for house renovation is developed by the researchers and tested by the architects using Augmented Reality. The dialogue between the parties serves as the basis for discovering novel applications for XR in architectural design practice.
